We all have the experience of food that goes over, or the clothes we rarely wear in the wardrobe. With the benefit of hindsight we would never buy more than we need, but it is a lesson we are increasingly finding we need to learn. There may also be times when a device is broken or a jacket is worn out, but can be fixed; the Repair Cafe and others offer help in fixing things, and so avoiding another thrown away item. And when waste is unavoidable, we need to be as smart as possible in recycling so that good use is made of materials, rather than ending in landfill.
Repair, recycle, reuse
Nailsworth Library offer a sheet of places in the town that offer to recycle items, such as batteries in Brutons.
Before throwing things away, consider the Repair Cafe in town, or someone else who might be able to fix it for you [At the moment, due to Covid-19, it is unclear when the Nailsworth Repair Cafe will be available again - we will update this page when we know].
If you don’t need an item (clothing, books, crockery, etc.) then consider taking it to one of the charity shops in town.
If it is computing equipment including printer cartridges, or recovery rare metals from broken computers, then the Nailsworth Computer Shop is the place to go.
Various venues recycle different items (Brutons for batteries and Brita water filters; Coop for shoes, batteries and crisp packets; Morrisons for carrier bags; and so on).
There are recycling bins for some items by Tesco Express.
Food waste is collected by Stroud District Council, and is used in an anaerobic digester and turned into energy (so please don’t through into the general waste bin).
