Tamzin Phillips’ Story of renewing her home and garden
Tamzin Phillips has lived in Nailsworth for 30 years. After a career as an environmental professional, Tamzin is now concentrating on her need to create and explore using fabric, stitch and mixed media. She is a member of Five Valleys Quilters Art Group and works from her studio “Star Hill Stitchery” in Nailsworth. She also runs workshops and enjoys inspiring others in their creative endeavours.
Her knowledge and experience have been put to work in how she has renewed her home and garden, in organic and practical ways that we can all learn from.
Her home is well insulated in a way that keeps the family warm in winter and cool in summer, with the help of her fabric skills. Water that had been a hazard is now managed as a resource. In her garden she works with nature to provide an environment that is home to a diverse range of plants and creatures. She makes her own compost to use as a mulch to suppress weeds, which help trees and shrubs retain moisture. This helps them survive dry spells.

She demonstrates that simple, low cost measures, like draught-proofing doors, can have a huge impact on comfort levels and energy bills.
